Kemper C30 Grass Pick-Up Boosts Output & Efficiency For Forage Harvester Operators

Greencrop has completed the first mainland UK sale of the Kemper C30 Grass Pick-Up for Claas forage harvester following a series of highly successful customer demonstrations. As the principal UK importer for the Kemper range, Greencrop has introduced the C30 to contractors and farmers looking to increase output, improve crop flow and maximise the performance of their existing machines.

During demonstrations across Yorkshire and Shropshire, the Kemper C30 consistently delivered smoother crop feeding, higher forward speeds and increased harvesting efficiency in a wide range of grass conditions.

Kemper C30 Proves Itself In Demanding Grass Conditions

The first demonstration took place near Northallerton with David and Martin Adamson of Adamson Contractors. The team tested the Kemper C30 in everything from first-cut old ley pasture to dense multi-cut grass, giving the pick-up the opportunity to perform in some of the most demanding conditions.

The results impressed from the very first field. The Pick-Up maintained a smooth, even crop flow that allowed the forage harvester to work efficiently throughout the day. Instead of feeding uneven lumps of crop into the machine, it presented a consistent mat of grass, helping the forager maintain output while producing an excellent, uniform chop.

Although Kemper did not originally develop the C30 for the Claas Jaguar 880, the Adamsons wanted to see how it would perform on their own machine. Despite the 880’s lower capacity, the C30 handled the crop exceptionally well and significantly improved crop presentation.

The team then fitted the header to a Jaguar 990, where the benefits became even more noticeable. The larger harvester comfortably accepted the increased crop flow, allowing operators to increase forward speed while keeping the machine working at maximum capacity.

Jaguar 970 Demonstration Confirms Performance Gains

Greencrop’s next demonstration took place near Much Wenlock with David Lea of John Lea & Sons, where the Kemper C30 went straight to work on a Claas Jaguar 970 harvesting first-cut grass.

David and his operator, Chris, wanted to keep the forage harvester working at full output throughout the day. The C30 delivered exactly that. From the first pass, the header supplied the Jaguar with a smooth, uninterrupted flow of crop. The following day, the team moved into a heavier multi-cut crop, where it continued to perform with ease.

David noted that the pick-up did far more than increase output. By removing sudden surges in crop intake, it reduced shock loading on the forage harvester and created a far smoother feeding action. He compared the effect to giving the machine additional feed rollers, producing a controlled and consistent crop flow similar in principle to the feed system used on Krone forage harvesters.

David felt that the Kemper C30 Grass Pick-Up enabled his Jaguar 970 to perform like a much larger machine, providing a cost-effective alternative to upgrading to a higher horsepower forage harvester.

Designed to Maximise Performance

Kemper designed the C30 specifically to help modern Claas forage harvesters achieve their full potential. Its heavy-duty construction, large-diameter auger and full-width crop intake work together to deliver a continuous, even flow of grass into the feed rollers. This reduces lumping, minimises shock loading and allows operators to maintain higher working speeds, even in difficult harvesting conditions.

Throughout the Greencrop demonstrations, customers reported output improvements of up to 25-30% compared with the standard Claas grass pick-up. That increase in productivity can make a significant difference during a busy silage season. Depending on crop conditions, operators could reduce daily harvesting time by as much as four hours. Less time in the field means lower fuel consumption, reduced labour costs, less wear on the forage harvester and more time available for additional work.

For contractors and large farming businesses, these savings can quickly deliver an excellent return on investment.

First <ainland UK Kemper C30 Sold to John Lea & Sons

Following the successful demonstrations, John Lea & Sons became the first business in mainland UK to purchase a Kemper C30 Grass Pick-Up. The sale marks an important milestone for both Greencrop and Kemper and highlights the growing demand for high-capacity grass pick-ups that enable forage harvester operators to achieve greater productivity without replacing their existing machines.
